Dear Drink To That reader,
What was your weekend like?
Mine was pretty educational. I spent it in Sheffield.
The Steel City has awesome nightlife and a rich history I enjoyed exploring.
And before we get into my adventures, I wanted to give you a quick reminder.
On Tuesday 15th August at 2 PM BST (9 AM EST), I’m running a FREE webinar called Podcast Pitching 101.
On the webinar you’ll learn:
How to craft a personalised pitch and get booked onto 5-star drink and hospitality podcasts.
Using podcasts to build brand credibility and generate leads with thousands of listeners.
Tried and tested tactics that got me booked onto 20 podcasts in under a year.
Now, on with my journey through one of England’s most dynamic cities…
Bars to visit
Whenever I’m in a new place, I’ve got a habit of seeking out the quirkiest bars I can find. Here are some I’d recommend for a pub crawl.
The Wick At Both Ends
A classic English boozer with all the usual suspects of Guinness, Madre, Peroni, the latest IPA that’s doing the rounds etc.
If you’re used to burning the candle at both ends, then you’ll feel right at home.
Bungalow & Bears
What was once an old fire station has been turned into a pub of cask ales and cocktails. Sports are played regularly on the TVs.
A good place for reading about existentialism and what it means to be free over a pint.
Capone’s Speakeasy
I’ve got a weakness for 1920s-themed venues. So, stumbling across this cocktail bar helped scratch the itch.
The menu was filled with all the classics you can think of. I ordered an Old Fashioned. It went down well.
Kuckoo
My favourite venue of the night. A rock-themed cocktail bar, Kuckoo feels like a mashup of a Led Zepplin and Metallica ensemble concert felt in the decor, drinks and music.
The cocktail menu is excellent from a storytelling and copywriting perspective. (For members of The Premium Serve, you’ll have access to a breakdown of the menu and how and why it’s good copy. Coming soon).
History & Miscellany
“As the art of life is learned, it will be found at last that all lovely things are also necessary…wild birds and creatures of the forest, as well as the tended cattle, because man doth not live by bread alone.” - John Ruskin
The Millenium Gallery - Checked out the gallery about the philosopher John Ruskin and his groundbreaking work on nature, wellbeing and architecture.
Kelham Island Museum - A whistlestop tour of Sheffield’s steel and manufacturing history.
Atelier - A new Japanese store featuring high-quality products from some of Japan’s greatest shokunin. Products that can’t be found anywhere else in the UK.
