Dear Drink To That reader,
When you hear the word epicurean, what comes to mind?
Fine meals and lots of drinking maybe?
You’d be wrong in thinking that.
Because to be an Epicurean is to “be moderate in order to taste the joys of life in abundance. The greater the difficulty, the more the glory in surmounting it.”
That comes straight from the founder of the philosophy, Epicurus.
Epicureanism is a highly practical philosophy that has a lot of useful applications in the hospitality sector.
Episode 5 of the Premium Serve is all about Epicureanism and you can listen to discover:
What Epicureanism is and how it’s different from Hedonism.
How to apply it in restaurants and bars.
Practical Epicurean tips for drink educators and sommeliers.
You can also listen to Episode 3 of the Premium Serve, which dives into the practical benefits of Stoicism in hospitality.
Let me know what you think of Epicureanism and if you’d like to hear more episodes about how to apply different schools of thought to hospitality.
Best,
Jamie
